Creating Audio
LAB TIME: 10-20 MINUTES
RECORD, CROP, MERGE & CONVERT AUDIO FILES IN A FLASH
IntroductionIn this lab we will be using 123Apps for their free suite of audio tools.
|
Record Your AudioIn order to add audio to your course, first you need to record the audio. Open up Voice Recorder in your web browser.
Using the red "record" button, you will be prompted to allow the website to use your microphone. Once you select "allow" the recorder will begin recording. Click the red "record" button again to stop recording. You can replay your recording at that time. You'll have the option to re-record or save. By clicking save, you'll be prompted to pick a save location on your computer. Make sure you save the file where you can find it! |
Cut Your AudioEven though we all want our audio clips to be perfect without any required editing, Audio Cutter Pro is a simple tool to crop out any unwanted part. In the example, we cropped out the silent few seconds at the beginning of the clip since it is unneccessary.
In Audio Cutter Pro, all you have to do is upload the audio file you would like to edit and use the sliders to select the audio you want to keep. Just like with Voice Recorder, you can play back your changes before saving. You'll also be able to download your new, edited clip. |
Join Audio ClipsWith Audio Joiner you can upload multiple clips and join them together.
You can choose which portions of each clip you would like to include by using the sliders. Convenient arrows on the right-hand side of each clip let's you reorder the clips. You can also add various audio mixing fades to your clips. You can fade-in a clip, fade-out a clip, or even cross-fade between clips. When you're done, click "join" and you'll be given the option to download your new audio file. |
Convert Audio ClipsMP3s are the audio standard for the web, so it is important to convert your audio clips to MP3 format if they are not already. Audio Converter allows you to upload an audio clip, select MP3, and convert your audio file in a matter of seconds.*
You'll be prompted to download your new MP3 as soon as the conversion is complete. *Note: The larger your file is, the longer it will take to convert. |
Get Fancy with HTML Inline AudioDid you know you can include audio right in a sentence? This is an advanced audio tool, but one your students will enjoy.
Let's say you teach music and you want to describe a sound, or simply a small clip of a song: Lindsey Stirling, known for her talent with the violin, began her music career on YouTube. You can learn more about how to make inline audio clips with SoundCite by Knight Lab. You will need experience with Embedding Media in order to use this audio tool.
