EDIT PHOTOS & CREATE 3D MODELS WITH YOUR MOBILE DEVICE
IntroductionGoogle Photos, a cloud based photo repository, can sync images on all your devices. It makes it easier to search, backup, share, and edit your photos. Google provides unlimited photo storage for free (if images are 16 megapixels or less). You can also save original photos (those greater than 16 megapixels). Google gives you 15 gigabytes of free storage and you have the option to add more for a small annual fee.
You can also make 3D models with a series of images by using Autodesk's 123D Catch on Android and iOS. |
Get Google PhotosGoogle provides free mobile versions of its Photos service for Android and iOS devices; there's also a Web-based version of Google Photos for uploading photos from PCs and Macs.

Making Your Model
123D Catch is a free app that lets you create 3D scans of almost any object. Capture places, people, and things in 3D using your phone or tablet. Once you've created it, it can be shared or even printed!
First take multiple photos of your object (between 20 to 40), so that 123D Catch can assemble the render. 123D Catch has a Quick Start Guide so you can be a pro in no time.

Sharing Your Model
- Once you complete your capture of the object with your device login to 123dapp.com on a desktop to access your 3D models.
- In the right hand corner is an avatar. Click on the avatar to go to your home page with all your projects.
- If you want to edit or clean up your model, go to apps.123dapp.com/catch/. Go over the essential tips displayed in the popup window, then open your model. Once the plugin is successfully installed to your desktop, you will be able to clean up your model and save the changes.*
- Once your model is all cleaned up, hit the save icon, and then EXPORT AS OBJ which can be found in the same drop down we used earlier to open the model.
- Your computer will download a compressed (.zip) file, save it and open up Sketchfab. Log in to your account and upload your zip file. Now you will be able to embed your mobile-ready 3D model into your course for students to interact with.
*Noted on 26 Aug. 2015: We're working on making a Part 2 video on how to edit your model & Part 3 on using Sketchfab.
